I am saddened by a lot of people’s knowledge of our country and its founding. Many people believe that the United States is a democracy. It is not. The United States is a Constitutional Republic. Let us begin with a couple of definitions.
Republic – a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.
Democracy – : government by the people ; especially : rule of the majority b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections
The former is what they United States is, a Republic. Does anyone ever actually listen to the words of the Pledge of Allegiance? “And to the REPUBLIC for which it stands”. How hard is that?
In a democracy, 51% of the people can take away the rights of the other 49%. Let’s say that the liberals want to go down this path. Now let’s say that 51% of the people decide that homosexuality should not be recognized. So the 51% vote to outlaw homosexuality. What now? It’s what the liberals decided they wanted in the form of a government, right? Now let’s say that 51% decide that abortion is bad. So that 51% vote to outlaw ANY abortions. What now? It’s the form of government that the liberals and lazy asses wanted. Now they have it but it’s turned on them. I’ll bet it wouldn’t be long before they were dreaming of bringing back the Republic. Now, on to the people who really count.
Our founding fathers knew that a democracy was a bad thing. If you don’t believe me, read their words for yourself.
“We are now forming a Republican form of government. Real Liberty is not found in the extremes of democracy, but in moderate governments. If we incline too much to democracy, we shall soon shoot into a monarchy, or some other form of dictatorship.” – Alexander Hamilton
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. – Benjamin Franklin
“…democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.” – James Madison, the Father of the Constitution
These are the men who set our Republic. They did not want a democracy, they knew what it would become. One of the greatest quotes on a democracy foretold what we are going through today in this country.
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can exist only until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, always to be followed by a dictatorship.” – Alexander Fraser Tyler.
People voting for people who keep the gravy train running through their houses? Does that sound familiar? That’s how an inexperienced “community organizer” gets elected President of the most powerful nation on earth. He told people he was going to basically keep that gravy train running. He promised the treasury through government run health care, taxes raised on the “rich”, and promises that government would come tuck their lazy good for nothing asses in at night.
What we need is a return to our roots. We need to return to the form of government that our founding fathers gave to us…A REPUBLIC.
How? First set, get rid of the 17th Amendment of the US Constitution. Give the states back their seat at the federal table. Only through the removal of the 17th Amendment can we put a rein back on the federal government. The people already have a house…the House of Representatives. They do not need another one in the Senate. Our founding fathers knew what they were doing by having the States select senators. This brilliant form of government gave the people one leg, the House and the States the other, the Senate. It worked for a long time. It’s time we return to it NOW.
